"The Deputy Leader of the Community Action Party Michael Moulding in response to Salford Council announcing they have been conned to the tune of £130,000 by organised crime they say is calling for the resignation of Salford's finance chief, Councillor Bill Hinds.

Salford Council regret they were duped by tens of thousands of pounds which is now under police investigation, however, it must be clear that Salford Council's safety systems were not up to the task of ensuring that in times of austerity, their systems were and are water tight.
The Community Action Party notes that Councillor Bill Hinds has been Salford's Chief Finance Spokesperson for many years and therefore a failure in systems to ensure resources are not stolen ultimately are his responsibility.

Michael Moulding, Deputy Leader of the Community Action Party and who has many years experience of working in governmental organisation within Fraud Departments says

"How easy was the deception ? We are told it is an organised crime but what safety checks did Salford Council have before they paid out this amount of money ? Its ok learning after the horse has bolted and hopefully nothing like this will happen again but serious questions need to be answered as to why this happened so easily ?"

"We are talking £130,000. Workers at Salford Council are being laid off, left, right and centre because of this Council's incompetence and then we witness this shambles ?

Its no laughing matter.

Councillor Bill Hinds has failed to ensure that all of Salford's resources are protected from theft of this nature and he should do the decent thing, take responsibility and resign. If not he should be replaced and sacked by the Mayor."
